Mr 2Kay reveals why he left record label after receiving ₦10m compensation

Nigerian singer Abiye Jumbo, popularly known as Mr 2Kay, has revealed that he left his former record label after it allegedly gave him only ₦2 million out of the ₦10 million compensation he received from Eko Hotel and Suites following an armed robbery incident in 2017.

The singer made this known during a recent interview with Yanga FM Lagos, where he recounted the circumstances surrounding his departure from the label.

Mr 2Kay was assaulted and robbed at gunpoint in his hotel room on October 22, 2017, after performing at the Buckwyld ‘n’ Breathless concert at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos.

Recounting the incident, the singer alleged that fellow musician Burna Boy had sent men to attack him.

“When Burna Boy sent boys to beat me up in Eko Hotel, the boys attacked me and ended up robbing me. Eko Hotel later compensated me with N10 million, but my record label gave me only N2 million out of it. So, I left the record label,” he said.

Following the incident, the Lagos State Police Command arrested four suspects, including Burna Boy’s road manager, Joel Kantiok. Burna Boy was declared wanted before later turning himself in to the police.

He was subsequently arraigned at the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in December 2017 on two counts of conspiracy and accessory to armed robbery and was granted bail.

Mr 2Kay later withdrew the case after Burna Boy apologised. In August 2021, the two musicians were spotted together at a Lagos nightclub, signalling an end to their four-year feud.

The singer also disclosed during the interview that he has ventured into music executive work, describing the business as lucrative.
